SSL Certificates

The Secure Socket Layer (SSL) protocol has become the universal standard on the Web for authenticating websites and for encrypting communications between users and web servers. Because SSL is built into all major browsers and web servers, simply installing a digital certificate enables SSL capabilities.
With a secure certificate installed on your domain name, the web server encrypts/scrambles the information sent to your users, who are the only ones with the key capable of decrypting/unscrambling and viewing the information. This capability is particularly useful for e-commerce or other sites that may handle private or personal data.
In addition, all data sent over an encrypted SSL connection (https) is protected with a mechanism for detecting tampering — that is, for automatically determining whether the data has been altered in transit. This means that users can confidently send private data, such as credit card numbers, to a website, trusting that SSL keeps it private and confidential.
SSL comes in two strengths, 40-bit and 128-bit, which refer to the length of the "session key" generated by every encrypted transaction. The longer the key, the more difficult it is to break the encryption code.
We provides two SSL options for our customers.
Option 1. - Shared Certificate
You can use our server-wide SSL secure certificate for making any page on your website secure without having to purchase your own certificate.
For example, SSL would be available at: https://server1.hosting-services.com/~yourusername/
Option 2. - Individual Domain Certificate
You can purchase a QuickSSL 128-bit certificate (see below) directly through the control panel and install it on your domain name.
SSL would be available at: https://www.yourdomain/
Alternatively, you could purchase a certificate from VeriSign, Thawte, Equifax, Entrust, OpenSRS or Comodo and install it with the automated SSL certificate installation tool located in your control panel.

Online Access to Your Business Profile
As part of the provisioning process with QuickSSL, your business will be registered with ChoicePoint* and assigned a ChoicePoint Unique Identifier (CUI) — equivalent to a DUNS number. The CUI provides a corporate profile to your Internet users through information imbedded in your certificate. The business registration profile initially contains the basic self-reported information from your CSR — your Domain, Company Name, Division, Country, State and City. ChoicePoint will allow relying parties to view and purchase additional data about your company. With access to your corporate profile, your customers will be confident in conducting business online. With the ChoicePoint Unique Identifier, our industry-recognized domain control authentication, and our two-factor telephony authentication, QuickSSL has the strongest real-time authentication process on the market today.
